The French brand Guerlain is known for its fragrances. A little known fact is that it is one of the most loved and oldest cosmetic and skincare house that the luxury world knows of today. The brand has a five generation business and dates back to 1818, where Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain started a small business of producing perfumes. A few of his clientele included Queen Victoria and Napoléon III
In 1864, after Pierre-François’s death, the brand was taken over by his sons who divided the work by one taking over managing the company and the other by producing more perfumes. The world then saw Fleur d’Italie (1884), Rococo (1887) and Eau de Cologne du Coq (1894) by the company under the succession of the brothers.
Known for keeping the tradition alive with richness and creativity, the brand has dominated the world for a good 170 years. Keeping their main focus on luxury, quality, expertise and standards, the perfumes are known to have an olfactory harmony known as Guerlinade. In 1921 the world saw a perfume launched with the same name.
Later on , the prestigious company was handed over to Jacques and Pierre Guerlain, son of Gabriel Guerlain. Jacques, like his uncle Aimé learnt the mastery of perfume making and created the world famous classics for the world like Mouchoir de Monsieur (1904), Après L’Ondée (1906), L’Heure Bleue(1912), Mitsouko (1919), Shalimar (1925), and Vol de Nuit (1933). Jacques composed his final perfume, Ode (1955), with his grandson Jean Paul, who was 18 at that time.
The family passed on the skills from generation to generation till 1994 when Jean Paul sold the company to a multinational LMVH. The brand is still known for their iconic makeup such as the Terracotta, which is still a benchmark for bronzers. The brand has always assured top notch quality and is known to use the most authentic and rich materials for any product they have created. The brand has always been able to keep intact the core values and deliver the best of their creations to their customers
